Why are pirates called pirates?

Because they aaaaarrrrrrrr!

That’s right, it’s pirate week and Year 2 (including staff + PGCE students) went all out in fancy dress today!  There are some rather fantastic pirate costumes for little people out there – if only they’d fit me!

We had a truly swashbuckling day with a treasure hunt, crossing a swamp using three planks and not touching the floor, thinking about pirates in numerous stories and generally terrifying the school population (though the last one pretty much happens on a daily basis!).

We did however hold a minutes silence at 11am to mark Remembrance Day, and whilst I’m unsure quite how much they understood why it was happening, the children from reception to Y2 stood still and silent; a proud moment for all.

“We will remember them.”
